Wildcat star will play collegiate ball

Baker County star full back Lucious Lee is making his coaches proud. Those coaches include his dad Ronald Lee.

The talented Wildcats go to ball carrier, in his senior season, helped lead his football team to a district title last fall. Lee kept his winning momentum going through the rigorous weightlifting winter season, finishing with a second individual state title last month. His solo win was also a major factor in the Baker boys adding a team state title to Coach Bobby Johns’ records.

All Lee’s hard work was rewarded Thursday afternoon when Lucious accepted a full football scholarship offer from Kansas based Highland Community College. Members of the Wildcats coaching staff and school administrators were on hand as he signed a letter of intent, committing to the junior college.

The Scotties are members of the Jayhawk Conference and have a long history of fielding winning football teams, that dates back to 1890. Their program has sent 11 graduates to the pro ranks.

According to Coach Johns the junior college competition in Kansas is ranked as one of the highest two state programs. "There is a tradition of excellent caliber programs in that area," he said.

John’s commented on Lee, "He will be a good fit out there and it has worked out good for him."

Lee was being recruited by other programs and had narrowed his choices to Highland, Grand Rapids CC and Joliette CC before opting for the Highland Scotties.

Both Lucious and his father will be making a trip to visit with his new college coaches after high school spring football winds up.
