INDIGO celebrates 1-year anniversary with ribbon-cutting ceremony

INDIGO, a sustainable energy and eco-friendly home supply store and education center near downtown Gainesville celebrated its one-year anniversary Saturday, May 17. The attendees enjoyed live music on the back lawn, free information booths for sustainability including but not

limited to organics, bicycling, solar power, the peace alliance, natural herbs, indigenous crafts, and a ribbon cutting ceremony with Gainesville city commissioner Craig Lowe.

INDIGO is a life-supply store with products that are renewable, ergo sustainable, non-toxic, and 'green.' A unique entrepreneurship brain-child and passion of owner Liberty Phoenix, INDIGO hopes to continue a second year re-threading our community sweater.

There was a spectacular vegan buffet featuring such treats as calzones from Satchels, yellow

Gazpacho, tempeh bruschetta, assorted vegetables, etc. However, the true focus of yesterdays event was bringing community together for a better life for everyone by offering options and training seminars for a more balanced and connected life out of respect for our planet, our community, and ourselves. INDIGO is looking to foster and educate community as well as provide them with sane choices for home products (all sorts), building materials, water-saving solutions, and can also serve as a starting place for linking with like-minded folks and small businesses making an impact on the present as the legacy of the future.

INDIGO is located at 322 SW 4th Avenue Gainesville, FL 32601. A trip inside to peruse all of the options for switching from less earth-friendly products can start with a conversation and a little curiosity. Judging by the supportive crowd and free-flowing information exchange, INDIGO will probably be celebrating its second year anniversary May 17, 2009.
