Insect Giants

JACKSONVILLE, FL - What’s summer in Florida without a few bugs? What can usually be pests can now be a wonderful and fun learning experience for the whole family.

Visit Insect Giants, a swarm of gigantic bugs that will crawl through the Museum of Science & History all summer long!

This blockbuster summer exhibit will feature enormous insects found in your own backyard. But don't worry, you won't have to watch your step around these bugs…they're up to 600 times their actual size!

You'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about the critters in your backyard. The exhibit's main attraction is a Praying Mantis 60 times bigger than the ones you would normally find in Florida! You'll learn so much more about the bugs that inhabit our planet, including beetles, locusts, caterpillars and the many varieties of stick insects.

Kokoro of Japan handcrafted each model to make them look as authentic as possible. These bugs are equipped with pneumatic mechanisms that make them look - and sound - like the real thing.

Get a bug's eye view of the life of insects with interactive vision displays including mosquito, honeybee and dragonfly heads that are 600 times bigger than real life! You'll be able to see how a bug with compounded eyes sees, just by looking through giant lenses. Younger explorers will also get to play in a Backyard Jungle, filled with enormous plants and animals. Just watch out for that giant Mosquito!

Insect Giants is now open but will be exterminated later this summer. Don't miss your chance to see these critters, up close and personal.
