Prior graduate scholarships available for Baker County students

MACCLENNY, FL - The Baker County Education Foundation is pleased to offer two Prior Graduate Scholarships: the Neil & Beatrice Kirkland Scholarship and the Norma G. Kirkland Scholarship. Applications are available at the Baker County School District Office, 392 South Boulevard East, Macclenny. Monday, July 7, is the deadline for submitting applications.

To meet eligibility criteria applicants must: plan to attend a college or some other post-secondary training institution; be a Baker County resident; been graduated from high school (not necessarily Baker County High School) or have a GED diploma for at least 3 years prior to deadline application date); demonstrate financial need; must complete 24 semester hours or the equivalent within 24 months of receiving scholarship; seek training or studies in a field that leads to employment in that area of specialty; demonstrate a personal commitment to the completion of the program of study or training; show how this training will benefit the general well being of Baker County.

The Norma G. Kirkland Scholarship ($500) was established by Dr. Ronnie O. Kirkland in memory of his wife, Norma, a former Baker County High School teacher. In recognition of Norma's rapport with youth and the ability to counsel with them, preference for this scholarship will be given to individuals pursuing a major in youth counseling, social work, or business administration. The Neil & Beatrice Kirkland Scholarship ($500) was established in honor of Dr. Kirkland's parents.

The Baker County Education Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, established in 1989, to provide support for the public schools of Baker County. It funds student and employee scholarships and teacher/school/district mini-grants through donations made through corporate partnerships; employee or other direct contributions; endowments; wills and codicils; beneficiary insurance policies; transfers of properties and business interests.
