Father’s Day at Home

By DAVID THEUS

I got to sleep in, watch TV, and dinner at home, not bad for Father’s Day. When asked what I wanted to do special today, I just said, "Let’s just stay in today and watch some TV and hang out." With the weather the way it was, it didn’t make any sense to be outside running around any way.

My wife has been cooking a lot more lately seeing how we are trying to do our part by not being out on the road driving around and burning excess gas. The price of groceries alone are difficult enough to swallow, add the price of filling up the gas tank and home cooking starts to look better every day. Now don’t get me wrong, my wife is a very good cook, I just like to go out sometime and be served and not have to worry about the clean up too.

Tonight’s meal was just right. She cooked a little roast, with our favorite vegetable medley and fluffy white rice. She has mastered the rice lately and it is always fluffy. Just right, this meal satisfied me and the gang and then some. I didn’t want to eat too much, because our youngest has been hinting around all day today that there might be a little dessert. If I’m lucky, maybe it will be my favorite carrot cake.

Either way, I have saved a little something special for later on tonight. On my trip to my tobacconist this week (Edward’s of San Marco) I grabbed an extra Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Toro for me to enjoy on the back porch with a nice tall Captain Morgan and Pepsi with fresh lime.

ARRR Mateee, Happy Father’s Day to me.
