The Beaches GET ANIMATED

National Tour Promotes Fun Physical Fitness for Families

The City of Jacksonville Beach, Comcast and Cartoon Network are partnering to bring the network’s national GET ANIMATED Tour to Jacksonville Beach on June 21 at Latham Plaza, 11 N. 2nd Street, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The 40-city tour, now in its fourth year, is a pro-social, pro-lifestyle program designed to motivate, energize and educate kids ages 6-11 about healthy living choices by using the power of Cartoon Network’s shows and brands.

At each stop of the GET ANIMATED Tour, kids will have the opportunity to engage in physical

activities that promote the message of keeping in shape. Activities will include a kickball station, tennis challenge, obstacle course, bicycle race, bowling challenge and limbo competition. All activities will be themed around Cartoon Network’s line-up of original cartoon series including Ben 10: Alien Force, Camp Lazlo, Chowder, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and My Gym Partner’s a Monkey.

Cartoon Network and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will present a new activity based on their SPOT THE BLOCK campaign, an on-air and online public education effort that encourages kids and tweens to use the Nutrition Facts information on the food label to make healthier food choices. SPOT THE BLOCK on the GET ANIMATED Tour will feature a mat and large moveable puzzle pieces that mirror the online game found at  www.spottheblock.com. Kids can test their puzzle-solving skills while learning to understand the nutrition charts on food packaging more effectively.

"We are pleased to partner with Cartoon Network to help educate our community’s children about healthy living choices," said Marilyn Matejcek, Public Relations and Events Coordinator, The City of Jacksonville Beach.
