Clay County and Attorney General join forces at Shred-A-Thon eventOn Monday, August 18, 2008, the Attorney General's Office hosted a community Shred-a-Thon event in conjunction with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Orange Park Police Department, Wachovia Bank and Shred-It Jax. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler were on hand to discuss the event as part of the ongoing effort to combat identity theft. A mobile shredding unit donated by Shred-It Jax was on site for individuals to shred credit card offers, receipts, check stubs, old bills and other outdated personal documents. Participants also received information about preventing identity theft and crimes against senior citizens from CCSO detectives. These Shred-a-Thon events are held across the state and were prompted by the fact that Florida residents report more than 17,000 cases of fraud and identity theft each year and because our state ranks fifth in the nation for identity theft complaints. |
