Tropical Storm Fay damage exceeds $246 million in Florida

NOVEMBER 12, 2008 - More than 41,000 claims were filed with Florida insurance companies for damage suffered from Tropical Storm Fay which hit much of the state in August.

According to officials, 84 percent of the claims have been paid while 9,555 remain to be settled.

Fay created more than $246 million in damage to homeowners and businesses with the highest number of claims filed in Brevard, Duval and Orange counties in the central part of the state. The storm made four landfalls in Florida, coming into the Florida Keys on August 18 and moving across the state into the Atlantic briefly before turning westward and leaving the Panhandle.
