Volunteer Awards Luncheon
NASSAU COUNTY, FL - The Nassau County Volunteer Center, with its sponsor Rayonier, will host the 23rd Annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 24 at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center. This year's theme is "Volunteers - A Big Thank You." Table, half-table, small business and individual tickets are available. Skybus Arilines shut down
As of April 5, Skybus Airlines shut down citing rising fuel costs and a slowing economy. Company officials plan to file this week for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. "We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our employees and their families, customers, vendors, suppliers, airport officials and others in the cities in which we have operated," said a message of the airline’s Web site. Passengers scheduled to fly Skybus after April 5 should contact their credit card companies for a refund.
New stores opening in OP mall
ORANGE PARK, FL - Three new retailers, including New York & Co., will open at Orange Park Mall shortly. The national specialty retailer of women's apparel and accessories has one other store in the Jacksonville area at Regency Square Mall. Tilly's, a surf, skate and motocross and So-Cal lifestyle clothing store, will open by late summer or early fall. Perfumania, a national discount perfume seller, plans to open in May.

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL - Join Geoff Sample of the St. John's River Water Management District on April 15 at 8:30 a.m. at Murray's Grill for a discussion about water issues in Northeast Florida. "Coffee and Conversation," is a monthly informational forum presented by the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce. Sample will make a presentation titled, "An Overview of the St. John's River Management District Surface Water and Other Areas of Interest." Sample is one of four SJRWMD Intergovernmental Coordinators. He is based in Jacksonville and works with Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. John's counties.
