Could Change Finally Be Coming?

By BRANDON FINLEY
Sports Reporter

For years fans have had more to say about a proposed playoff system for college football than any of the powers that be. That may all be changing this week as for the first time someone is willing to open up talks about it.

Mike Slive is the commissioner of the SEC, and soon he may be a hero to many college football fans. The reason being is Slive may be taking some action, something that's never been done before.

The proposed formula that may become fact will be the plus one model that has been tossed around now since the inception of the BCS. The plus one formula will essentially be a four team playoff with an extra game taking place after the bowls.

John Swofford, the commissioner of the ACC, will be one of the big powers backing the push. Though it's probable that nothing will change, this is the cry fans have been waiting for. It's the push that may begin budging the camel although it probably won't be the straw that breaks its back.

These two are not the only ones publicly backing the system. Commissioners from other conference have addressed the need including the Big 12 and Big East. However, the Pac 10 and Big 10 have been big advocates against these systems for years, and haven't given the plus one model their blessing.
