Fuente Hemingway Classic is a Classic

Fuente Hemingway Classic is a Classic

By DAVID THEUS

This week I wanted to try something different. I've never smoked a perfecto shaped cigar before. My trustful cigar shop expert led me right to the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic 7x48. This beautiful specimen from the Dominican Republic comes with a slightly darker natural African Cameroon wrapper.

This hand rolled perfection is slightly tapered at the end of the cigar in the shape that some refer to as a nipple. At first I wasn't sure how easy and evenly it would be to light, much to my surprise it lit very evenly and with ease. This particular ring size is slightly smaller than I usually like to smoke. I've always been a fan of a #1 or Churchill size when I smoke because of the draw and flavor I receive, and also the way it fits my larger hand.

This size although smaller, still proved to be a nice fit. The draw was flavorful and slightly labored. The ash was stiff and long standing from its somewhat compacted filler and tightly rolled wrapper. The darker natural wrapper provided a more medium strength than I'm used to, but very pleasant just the same. I think I will be more inclined to experiment with more medium wrappers in the future. I guess my tastes and maturity is expanding as a person who enjoys a more robust yet gentle smoke. There is no mystery why this cigar is so well sought after; I will enjoy several more in the very near future.
