Sesquicentennial plans underway in Clay County Sesquicentennial plans underway in Clay CountyGREEN COVE SPRINGS – Now is the time to dust off your costumes, get out your bonnets and Sunday best because the Clay County Sesquicentennial Celebration will really kick off on May 10 at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Clay County was created on December 31, 1858 and they will be celebrating their 150th birthday observance. The county-wide party will include a parade at the Clay County Agricultural Fairgrounds with school bands, veterans, floats, a barbecue cook-off and a King and Queen, among other things. Events will include games and entertainment for the kids starting at 11:00 and the winner of the BBQ contest will be announced at 11:30. The Grand Parade will begin at noon at the Clay County Agricultural Fairgrounds and a street dance in Green Cove Springs from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Re-Discover Florida will be open, with artisans of the old crafts on hand to demonstrate what it took to live in pioneer days. Other plans include a light show at 9:00 pm and local craft and food vendors in Green Cove Springs. |
