Circus comes to town
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - The Ham Jam Charities Foundation is bringing the World’s Biggest Big Top to Reynolds Park Yacht Center on May 2! The Carson & Barnes Circus comes complete with a full opening parade, acrobats, high wire acts, motorcycle and trapeze artists, clowns, camels, dogs, horses and the best elephant act under the Big Top! See more than 100 animals up close, which is free with admission. The huge tent literally goes up between 8 and 11 a.m. that morning using elephant muscle.
Tickets are $16 for adults at the gate or $12 in advance. Tickets are available at Ronnie’s Wings on Walnut Street in Green Cove Springs, at the Howard Johnson Inn, Clay County Transmission and Clay Today in Orange Park and Aerials Restaurant and Clay County Transmission in Middleburg. Flower Show and Home Tour
The Garden Club of Jacksonville will host a Flower Show and Home Tour at the Riverwood by Del Webb community in Nocatee. The show and tour is from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2 and 3. Signs will be up throughout the community to direct attendees. $15 in advance, $20 at door. Veterans Resource Fair
JACKSONVILLE, FL - The annual Veterans Resource Fair is this week at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. The free event for local veterans provides information on job placement and a variety of social services.
The city's Military Affairs, Veteran and Disabled Services Division will host the event from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 2 and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
On Friday, about 80 businesses and organizations will provide information on job opportunities. On Saturday, attendees can receive Veterans Affairs services, medical and dental care, haircuts, showers, food, clothing, shelter and housing information, debt management and financial education, substance abuse information, legal services and more.

Play Smart! Stay Safe!
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Brooks Rehabilitation and the Jacksonville Jaguars are teaming up to help children play safe and avoid head injuries. Together, they are hosting Play Smart! Stay Safe!, a free child safety event on May 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Jaguars’ practice field. Kids ages 4-16 can get custom-fitted for a sports safety helmet emblazoned with the Jaguars’ logo. A suggested donation of $5 is appreciated. Donations will support Mothers Against Brain Injury. There will be activities for parents, too, with demonstrations on how to properly install child car seats.
The event will feature Jaguars player Mike Peterson, and Jaxson de Ville will make a special appearance from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Kids and parents can enjoy clowns, refreshments and other games. Please call 858-7788 to reserve your spot.

Garden Tour
CALLAHAN, FL - The Callahan Garden club is hosting its third garden tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 3. Tickets are $15 per person and are available for purchase from 8 a.m. to noon at Joyce's Garden Shop, Callahan Garden Center and Brockwood Nursery. All proceeds will go toward the garden club's renovations.

Learn to make berry preserves
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Capture the taste of summer at the Strawberry Preserves Class offered by the city of Jacksonville Canning Center and the Duval County Extension Service. You'll learn the process and take home some preserves to share. The class is from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, May 5, and pre-registration is required by Thursday. $20 per person, includes all materials. This Jacksonville Landing event features Mayor John Peyton giving Proclamation of THE PLAYERS Championship Week, honoring the anniversary of Mark McCumber’s win and the showing of highlight videos from past THE PLAYERS Championship. Quilt Walk
LAKE CITY, FL - Lake City Quilt Walk in Historic Downtown Lake City will be held May 9-10. New and Antique quilts will be on display in merchants windows throughout downtown. Vendors and demonstrations will be on hand both days of the event. A Mother's Day Luncheon is planned for Saturday in the Blanche Hotel. Inn Tours
AMELIA ISLAND, FL - From flowers to pumpkins to "secret" cookie recipes, the Amelia Island Bed and Breakfast Association invites the public to enjoy three new open-house walking tours in 2008. Beginning on Saturday, May 10, the seven member inns will offer a House and Garden Tour, giving guests a unique view of some of Amelia Island's hidden gardens. Scheduled the day before Mother's Day, the House and Garden Tour will showcase the properties' flowering gardens, period architecture and unique decorating schemes.
Addison on Amelia, the Amelia Island Williams House, the Ash Street Inn, Elizabeth Pointe Lodge, Fairbanks House, Florida House Inn and the Hoyt House will participate in the tours.

Railroad Days coming
The West Nassau Historical Society has begun preparations to host the third annual Railroad Days Festival, scheduled for May 30-31 in Callahan.
