The Gamer

I find it intriguing how some ancient cultures thought that the color red signified "new blood" such as a newborn or a new member of a tribe. It’s funny because if you are a Xbox 360 owner, red is the last color you want to see.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
This weekend I got the so-called red ring of death on my console. So, now I am what I like to call next-genless... The lack of a next gen console.

My only saving grace was that my Xbox is still under warranty. So, I make a call to Xbox, 1-800-4MY-XBOX, to ask them to fix it. Xbox told me they would send me a box through UPS and I was to place just the console, no accessories or hard drive, into the box and drop it off at a UPS drop site and wait 3 to 6 weeks.

Three to 6 weeks!!! Let me just go out back and shoot myself for renewing my Live Gold account with a three month subscription.

Xbox also told me that when I receive my Xbox back it will have a 90 day warranty and they will give me a one month gold subscription to Xbox Live.

So basically they are taking away my three month package and giving me a one month package. Yeah, that sounds fair. Also, the Xbox is a computer, what is there to stop Microsoft from putting a virus in it that starts to work after 90 days? It makes me wonder...

Why doesn’t Xbox just send me a new one? I think that would save on time, reduce the chance of any future problems, and make me a whole lot happier.

The thing that scares me the most was when I was talking to the lady at Xbox she told me that my Xbox had a hardware malfunction. However, she told this to me as calm as could be. That makes me wonder about the sincerity of the product.

How many other consoles have been afflicted with this Grim Reaper in a red robe? How many other gamers have been rendered next-genless? How exactly does Microsoft fix the hardware malfunction?

It seems to me that Microsoft has been caught red-handed, and only time will tell what they are going to do about it.
