Suns Welcome 2,000,000th Fan to the Baseball Grounds

Suns Welcome 2,000,000th Fan to the Baseball Grounds

JACKSONVILLE, FL - On Friday, April 18th, Preston Chase of Middleburg, FL was the 6,784 fan through the gates at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. He only came to watch the series finale of the Jacksonville Suns and Carolina Mudcats but to his surprise became the 2,000,000th fan to come through the gates for a Suns game since the ballpark was opened in April 2003. Preston was greeted at the gate by Suns President and General Manager Peter Bragan Jr. and awarded with a prize pack worth hundreds.

Suns attendance at the Baseball Grounds has been remarkable, averaging nearly 400,000 per year over the past five years. In the ballpark's inaugural 2003 season, the team drew 359,979 fans, setting an all-time Jacksonville baseball attendance mark, as well as achieving the second highest attendance total in Southern League history. The 2004 season set the high water mark for fans in Jacksonville, the Suns welcomed 420,495 fans through the gates, again setting a Jacksonville mark. Averaging over 5,000 fans per game since 2003, the Suns have led the Southern League each year in the Baseball Grounds and hold the second- through sixth-best attendance figures in league history.

Through the Friday, April 18th home game of 11,837, the Suns have drawn 47,927 to date this year, giving the team a six-year total of 2,005,053, slightly past the Two Million Milestone.

The Suns are on the road but return home for a 10-game set featuring the Tennessee Smokies and Carolina Mudcats on Wednesday, April 30. Tickets for the Suns next home stand are currently on sale at the Suns box office or online at www.jaxsuns.com.
