Mother's Day and TPC

Mother's Day and TPC

By LYNSIE BREAUX

While Mother's Day comes every year, this one had special meaning for me. This was the first Mother's Day since my brother died.

I hadn't really thought too much about the holiday until a few weeks before it came.

This year was the first time that I would be spending Mother's Day with my stepmother who in the past year has become my defacto mother.

All she wanted was for my dad and I to clean up the property and cook enough for all her children and grandchildren to come over and enjoy the holiday.

That sounded easy enough until I got "the call" a few days before Sunday.

"Sorry about calling so late but how would you like to go to the TPC?"

Slightly more than a month ago, I had expressed interest in covering The Players for the paper.

However, press passes for The Players run out months before the tournament. And the chances of getting press passes for a first-year paper are rather slim.

Because of this, I had pretty much given up on going to see golf.

Because of this I was slightly taken back when asked if I would like to go.

And I couldn't say yes quickly enough.

There was just one small problem. Sunday's final round was scheduled for Mother's Day.

Because of that, I had to give up on going to see the final round but Saturday was still up for grabs!

While it is Mother's Day weekend, it was still great to be able to give my dad such a huge present. And knowing that we would be gone all day Saturday, that just meant that we'd have to finish our work a day early.

Even though I was given the tickets at no cost, you would have thought I'd offered my dad the keys to Fort Knox when I asked him if he'd like to go.

It's really amazing how such small items make such a huge difference in people's lives.

It wasn't all that much work to get the yard looking perfect for the family. But Mom was as happy as could be with the work we did.

And Dad enjoyed walking around Sawgrass with his son every bit as much as I enjoyed taking him.

The Stadium Club at Sawgrass is a really unique event even more than a venue.

People that aren't golf fans know about "The Island Green." And seeing it in person especially with the finest golfers in the world plying their trade is something special.

It was great to be able to give both of them something great for the weekend.

It really is better to give than receive.
