Not Bad in a Pinch

Not Bad in a Pinch

By DAVID THEUS

If you’ve found yourself out of your favorites and you haven’t made time to stop by your premium quality cigar purveyor, or FedEx has not come with your latest shipment. Just head on down to your local Walgreens and pick up yourself a Blender’s Gold Especial Natural in its own cool little wooden box.

I have yet to find anything about the manufacturer other than it is my suspicion it is the same folks that make the "Blender’s Gold" pipe tobacco products for Walgreens to distribute and just so happens to be one of their ancillary products in their mix. Either way, the cigar is hand-rolled and hails from Honduras. It’s Connecticut wrapper is nice and smooth along with its tailored and symmetrical shape.

The cigar is offered as a "natural" and "maduro," it’s about a Corona or Panatela in size, I’ve always grabbed the natural, it’s mild but not too mild. It has a slightly woody taste about one third into the smoke, and an airy draw, but its aroma is nice and smooth and the ash burns like a champ. I tell you, in a pinch, it’s not bad and it runs about $3.95 each. Try one, you may just make it your backup when in need.
