Need something to do this weekend? Go to the Tallahassee Film Festival!

By JONATHAN BRANTON

Do you like to watch movies? How would you like to do it all weekend for free or pretty close to free? The city of Tallahassee is hosting their first annual Film Festival this weekend from May 15-17.

The places where these movies will be shown are at a variety of locations... The Florida State University Student Life Center, the FSU Film School Mix Theatre, the Florida A & M University School of Journalism and Graphic Communication Hall, All Saints Cinema, the Museum of Florida History, the IMAX Theatre at the Challenger Learning Center, and the Tallahassee Community College Tuner Auditorium.

The event kicked off on Thursday night with a documentary movie to Florida State's Head Football Coach, Bobby Bowden. The movie was called "The Good Fight".

This event is great for those new and upcoming filmmakers. The majority of the weekend you will be viewing new movies from filmmakers around the country as well as some locals who have submitted their works. The majority of the films will be taking place on Friday and Saturday, with films starting at 2:30 pm and going until 10:30 pm on Friday, and films starting at 10:15 am and ending at 11:15 pm Saturday evening.

If you would like to purchase tickets for those movies that do require a small fee, you may do so online at: www.tickets.fsu.edu through the FSU Fine Arts Ticket Office. You may also call them at (850) 644-6500. If there is not a high volume of tickets being sold for a certain movie, you may also choose to purchase them at the door of the event. All movies shown before 5:00 pm are free and open to all the public. Any movie that is shown after 5:00 pm will be $4 in advance and $5 at the door.

Not only will there be films shown non-stop this weekend, on Friday night there will be a downtown get-down event just for filmmakers, film buffs, and anyone else who wants to attend. The events happening at this block party are: open-air screenings, music and talent contests, along with vendors, and exhibits. On Saturday, the FSU Film School will be hosting seminars about making films. Also, later that night there will be a "wrap-up" party at the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science at 7pm.

I hope that you find an event that suits you this weekend at the Film Festival. If you do not do anything, you must at least go to the block and wrap-up parties. I'm sure that it will be fun and a treat for all. Go support the struggling new filmmakers of America.
