Where’s Natalie Gulbis?
In an effort to cover the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) we have decided to do so by featuring North Florida News Daily’s favorite Lady Golfer Natalie Gulbis. We will be featuring each week a column dedicated to making the cut, the tournament play, and, of course, the pay off of each and every week while on tour. Pictures too. What would a story about golf be without some photos of the undulating greens and pesky soft billowy sand traps?
For some of you that didn’t know, our favorite LPGA golfer is the first Latvian-descent LPGA golfer, and that culture and tradition remain big parts of her life today. As for you car enthusiasts, I’m sure you would like to know that Natalie’s favorite car is the Dodge Viper, her favorite color is purple, and her favorite movie’s are Tombstone and Beaches.
Natalie’s hero is none other that Nancy Lopez and other sports figures she admires are Ben Roethlisberger, Cristie Kerr, Mia Hamm, and Derek Jeter. As for her favorite restaurants and foods: Outback café rocks, her favorite nosh are cookies, and her favorite dessert is "Thunder from Down Under" from Outback. I wonder if she might be sponsored by Outback….ummm. I checked, she’s not, but the folks over at Outback might want to get in touch with our Natalie.
Turns out, this past week’s play was the Michelob Ultra Open. The Kingsmill Resort & Spa, River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia was the location this past week. The course is a par 71, 6,315 yard beauty. This year’s purse was a whopping $2,200,000 with the winner taking home a cool $330,000.00 for a week’s work.
Unfortunately our Natalie did not win this week but tied for 44th position with the likes of five other capable lady golfers, Michele Redman, Angela Stanford, Cristie Kerr, Beth Bader, and Louise Friberg. Each taking home $8,920 for their week’s efforts. Oh well, there’s always this week. We’re off to Sybase Classic Presented by ShopRite, at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ. This weeks purse another $2,000,000, let’s just keep our fingers crossed, make the cut, and finish strong. Good luck Natalie.
