Reading is fundamental
Six-year-old Sarah Theus stands outside the Emily Taber Public Library in Macclenny proudly holding her first library card and a bag full of the first books she "checked out." There were

several books from the "Ready to Read" series for children. Some of the titles include: "Eleanor Roosevelt and the Scary Basement", "The Christmas Bandit", and "Dolls of Danger". Of course who could leave the library on your first visit without your own copy of "The Ultimate Dick and Jane Storybook Collection?"
Sarah’s dad, David Theus is a Baker County High School English Language Arts teacher and is a strong advocate of reading at home with his children. "My wife and I read every night with Sarah, and we are always reading something in our home." He also said how important it is for our community to read at home with our kids, even if it’s just a magazine or even a cereal box in the morning before school.
With upcoming reports from the state due shortly regarding Baker and surrounding other school districts performances on the FCAT, maybe David’s and Sarah’s attitude towards reading at home might not be such a bad idea for future students.
