Baker County Sheriff's Report

Drug arrests
A routine traffic stop for no license plate resulted in the arrest of a Sanderson man on felony drug possession charges. On May 17 Deputy Patrick McGauley noticed a vehicle traveling south on CR 127 with no license plate. When he conducted a traffic stop, the driver identified himself as Todd Winfred and said he did not have his license with him. While interviewing him, a bystander addressed the suspect as "Bobby" at which time he admitted his real name and said he did not have a license.

A small pill bottle containing four pieces of crack cocaine and a plastic bag containing 87 small plastic baggies commonly used to distribute individual amounts of narcotics was located under the front seat.

The passenger in the car, the real Todd Winfred, 23, stated the crack cocaine belonged to him. He was charged with felony possession of cocaine.

The driver, an 18-year-old student from Sanderson was issued three misdemeanor citations for no driver’s license, no tag, and resisting arrest without violence.

Calls about reckless driving resulted in the arrest of an Orange Park teen on charges of sale and possession of drugs near a school. Andre Shawn Jones, 18, was taken into custody on felony charges after Deputy Greg Burnsed who had stopped him for reckless driving found 23 small zip lock bags containing marijuana and a hand-rolled marijuana cigar in his vehicle.

Battery investigation
A delivery worker employed by Prestige Ready Mix concrete company says he was the victim of racial slurs and physically attacked by the contractor and two workers on a job site on Huckleberry Court in Macclenny. The 34-year-old victim said he was pouring concrete on the job site and had moved to a clean-up area when he was approached by the contractor who then spit in his face and punched him. Two more men held him down on the ground while he was punched and kicked. He stated he was able to get up by biting the man holding him. At that time he said he pulled out a pocket knife to defend himself and went toward a nearby home occupied by a JSO officer and call police.

This investigation is containing and interviews were scheduled earlier this week with the suspect.

Aggravated battery charges
A 23-year-old Sanderson woman was arrested on May 12 after allegedly entering onto the victim’s property and threatening her with a weapon in the course of an on-going feud. Crystal Alexis Coleman-Thomas was charged with aggravated assault after she attempted to strike the victim with a thick piece of electrical wire wrapped in duct tape that was found at the scene.

Residential burglary
Officers were called to a residence on Miltondale Road in Macclenny on May 14 after the homeowner returned to find her home had been burglarized. The back door had been forced open and drawers and cabinets disturbed. Several medications were missing.

Shoe prints outside the residence matched those found on an imprint on the door where entry was made. A witness also noticed two teenage males near the residence earlier that afternoon. The case is still under investigation.

A check revealed 23-year-old Justin Schulaka’s drivers license was suspended 16 times. The suspensions are 14 failure to pays, one fail to pay court-ordered financial obligation and one revocation for a period of two years for violation of a controlled substance.

With friends like this...
A Macclenny man called police on May 17 after his vehicle was taken by one of his friends. Charles Guernsey advised that Claude "Wendall" Mann was in his car when he went into the County Club Lounge. When he came out, his car and Mann were missing.

While he was being interviewed by Deputy Ben Anderson, he received a phone call from Mann saying he had the car and would have it back in a few minutes. In a second phone call, Mann said that he wasn’t going to bring the car back and he wanted the victim to go ahead and proceed with charges with the Sheriff’s Office. Charges are being forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.
