Modest Mouse to Perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre June 25th!

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - One of the biggest names in indie music today, Modest Mouse, will be performing with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band June 25th at the new St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Modest Mouse was formed in Issaquah, Wash., outside Seattle, and the band prospered during the ‘dark ages’ after Nirvana and before the Strokes, when underground rock went back underground. Their music refuses allegiance to any particular structure or style.

The group's 1997 album, ''The Lonesome Crowded West,'' was a knotty, exhilarating collection designed to ward off casual listeners and reward patient ones. Their popularity has risen drastically with each album, finally reaching #1 on the Billboard charts with 2007 "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank."

"Over the last dozen years, Modest Mouse has traveled a craggy path from shoestring independence to platinum-selling prominence, without surrendering any of its stubborn idiosyncrasies. It’s a major-label indie-rock band, less of a contradiction than that might seem." –New York Times

"In the '90s, the trio's agitated, aggressive songs, highlighted by singer/guitarist Isaac Brock's distinctive howl, made them indie rock favorites. But the group (now a sextet) is long past underground darling status now. The appropriately buoyant ‘Float On,’ from 2004's ‘Good News for People Who Love Bad News,’ was a legit breakthrough hit and 2007’s ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank’ debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts." –The Washington Post

"Modest Mouse makes a peculiar brand of existential folk poetry, one that combines singer-guitarist Isaac Brock's desperately uneasy vocals with off-kilter arrangements, creating something strangely catchy." –Rolling Stone
