The Churchill - Not So Good

The Churchill - Not So Good

By DAVID THEUS

It was back to Walgreen’s again for me this week to try out another cigar. I decided to go with another "Blender’s Gold", but this time the Churchill or number 1 sold in a glass tube behind the check out stand for about $3.95. I have to say the presentation in its very own glass cylinder is very sleek, but I’m sorry to say, it was not as good as their corona version that comes in its very own wooden box, for about the same price.

Once again the look and feel of this Honduran, is nice and compact. The aroma before lit is smooth and sweet, but not a syrup sweet, just pleasing to the nose. Upon clipping the head of the cigar, I found it difficult to get an initial even light. Once lit, it was a bit of a labored draw and sadly nothing to write home about, from there on. It did burn evenly once lit and the ash performed well, but as for flavor and the aroma of its smoke, nothing special.

I have to say, if I find myself in this situation again, having to stop in at my local Walgreen’s for my weekend fix, I’m sticking with the corona in its own wooden box. In the mean time, I’m going to do a better job of making sure I don’t run out of my favorite premium cigars.

In the world of cigars, there are good ones, and then there are really good ones. I feel if you are only going to smoke once a week or so, splurge and get the really good ones. Why not spoil yourself from time to time?
