Memorial Day Events Memorial Day EventsMemorial Day CeremonyMemorial Day Ceremony, on Monday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m., Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery, 2315 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs. Featured speaker is retired Lt. Cmdr. Bruce McGee, with music by Donna Gill and Jonathan Lamm and a display of military vehicles. There will also be a flyover by a 1945 L4J, as well as a missing man ceremony. (904) 284-7720. Fernandina Beach Memorial ServiceThe Marine Corps League, Nassau Detachment #1017, will host the annual Memorial Day service at Front and Centre streets in downtown Fernandina Beach on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The guest speaker will be Maj. Dennis Sanchez, Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Jacksonville. The public is invited to attend.
The American Legion Post 54 will be open to the public following the ceremony downtown. The public is invited to drop by and see the Legion's home in the historic log cabin at 11th Street and Atlantic Avenue (near Central Park).
Memorial Day ObservanceJoin area citizens to honor the local heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country on Monday, May 26. The Memorial Day ceremony includes keynote speakers, presentation of colors, family tributes, a wreath presentation, a 21-gun salute, "Taps" and musical tributes. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Wall, 1145 East Adams Street, in Jacksonville. Pre-ceremony music at 9:30 a.m. performed by The St. Johns River City Band and the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Chorale. |
