"The Secret Garden"

Theatre Jacksonville will present The Secret Garden in June.

This enchanting classic of children’s literature is now a brilliant musical by a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. Orphaned in India, an 11-year-old girl returns to Yorkshire to live with an embittered, reclusive uncle and his invalid son. The estate includes a magic locked garden. Flashbacks, dream sequences, a strolling chorus of ghosts, and some of the most beautiful music ever written for Broadway dramatize The Secret Garden’s compelling tale of regeneration. This Tony Award winner is a treasure for children and adults.

Theatre Jacksonville’s production is directed by Michael Lipp with musical direction by Rachel Clifton.

The play is by Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Lucy Simon. It is based on "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgsen Burnett.

"Brigadoon"

Orange Park Community Theatre will present Brigadoon through the month of June. This wonderful musical of romance has been enjoyed by Broadway audiences for decades.

It tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. The enchantment is viewed by them as a blessing rather than a curse, for it saved the village from destruction. According to their covenant with God, no one from Brigadoon may ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village and their arrival has serious implications for the village's inhabitants.

Showdates are June 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 8:00 PM. Sunday Matinees are June 8th, 15th and 22nd at 3:00 PM.

Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain for general audiences, and one hour prior to curtain for Season Ticket and Pass holders. Ticket prices are $20 for All Audiences.

"The Sound of Music"

The Alhambra will present The Sound of Music June 4-July 27.

Based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, the spirited young woman who leaves the convent to become governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp, an autocratic widower whose strict household rules leave no room for music or merriment. Through her youthfulness and zest for life she brings happiness and love to the von Trapp family.

A timeless family classic which touches the hearts of all ages, the score brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including My Favorite Things, Do Re Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Every Mountain, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.
