Milner withdraws from House race
Bradford County Sheriff Bob Milner publicly announced this week he has withdrawn from the race for Florida House District 12. The seat will be open from Rep. Aaron Bean due to term limits.
Milner admitted that the decision to withdraw was a very difficult one to make. He praised the amount of support he had garnered during his candidacy, especially in Nassau County.
"God has blessed me with so many new friends who I hope will still be my friends after this announcement. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support throughout the district and consider it a great privilege to have earned their friendship and support," Milner said.
Milner said he decided to withdraw for private family reasons, but noted that the time demands of being weighed heavily in his decision. With 60-day regular sessions, ever increasing special sessions and travel throughout the year to hearings, a legislator can easily spend approximately 100 days a year away from his family and primary employment.
"Eight-year term limits make it imperative a legislator commits considerable extra time to moving up as soon as possible. Given the needs of my family and my desire to enter the world of free enterprise, I could not honestly make that commitment at this time, which the citizens deserve."
Milner has served as Bradford County Sheriff for nearly 16 years and will retire to spend more time with his family.
Nassau County School Board Member Janet Adkins and Damon Fernandez, a write-in candidate from Baker County, remain the only announced candidates for the legislative seat.
