Dining With Dave

Early Dinner at the Texas Roadhouse

By DAVID THEUS

Just a sample of the great food at the Texas Roadhouse Steak House.

Well, on the way home from somewhere last week while I was covering a story about something, we found ourselves coming home through Lake City and looked at one another and said, when in Lake City, do as the Lake Citians do, and eat a steak at the Texas Roadhouse Steak House on Highway 90 just east of Interstate 75.

In case you have never been to this place, friendliness is the watchword here, they seat you and then a guy or gal in tight Western Jeans and a t-shirt comes to your table with a big smile and takes your order. My youngest likes it because you can drop your discarded peanut shells on the floor when you’re done, and that’s one of the reasons I like it too.

It was just my wife, me, and our youngest, and one of her friends who came along for the day. I ordered my standard sweet tea with the 8oz sirloin cooked medium with a side of sautéed mushrooms and onions, steamed broccoli, and a house salad with bleu cheese. My wife ordered the same but a 6oz sirloin and the girls had the sirloin steak tips each. Oh and I almost forgot, some of their rolls. If you have been there, you know the ones I’m talking about. If not, you need to go.

This is going to be short and to the point. Sometimes in life you are fortunate enough to find a restaurant that is good, consistent, consistent and good. Are you starting to get the idea?

This place is loud, fun, relaxing, great service, clean except for the peanut shells, but they're natural, and just damn good. It’s a value, it’s good, it’s consistent, I look forward to going there as often as I’m in the mood for a properly seasoned and prepared steak. The four of us ate for right at $36.00 and change. I give them four forks out of five, get there early and walk right in, or sit a spell in the lobby area. Either way, it’s worth it, it's some of the best tasting steak I have eaten.
