Think Blue at the annual Blueberry Festival

All things blue and berries will be available at the 7th Annual Blueberry Festival on June 13 and 14 at the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds. Sponsored by The Northeast Florida Fair Association the festival will run Friday, June 13 from 4:00-10:00 p.m. and on Saturday, June 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds, about two miles north of Callahan on US 1. Admission is free.

Blueberries are the star of the festival. In addition to lost of tasty blueberry treats, festival goes can pick up blueberry bushes for their own home gardens.

Jephro's Swamp Sauce, will provide the blueberry pancake breakfasts this year. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage and a choice of juice or coffee all at a reasonable price.

Crafts, entertainment, and games and lots of other great foods and beverages including blooming onions, cotton candy, barbecue and seafood dinners will be available.

A Youth Talent Show will be held on Friday night starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Entertainment Pavilion. There are two age divisions; 6 through 12 years and 13-18 years. First place winners in both divisions will win $75; second place, $50 and third place, $25.

The Blueberry Festival Rodeo will be held on Friday and Saturday starting at 8:00 p.m. in the rodeo arena.

The Fifth Annual Youth Poultry Show will take place in the Small Animal Barn on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. It will be followed by the showmanship portion for youngsters ages 5 to 18 and will feature purebred exhibition breeds only. No mixed breeds or production birds will be permitted.

The Youth Beef Show will be held in the Youth Cattle Barn. The showmanship competition will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Prospect Steer Show will take place Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The Heifer Show will follow one hour after the Prospect Steer Show has ended.
