Ragtime to Rock

The Musical Heritage of Jacksonville opens : MOSH's newest original temporary exhibit, which focuses on Jacksonville's rich music history, is open. This exhibit explores Jacksonville's role in music history, as well as famous performances, venues and local legends.

Kids' fishing clinic

Fort Clinch State Park and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will conduct the 2008 Kids' Fishing Clinic on June 14 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Children ages four-16 can participate in the free clinic that offers fishing lessons such as knot tying, fishing ethics, tackle, habitat and casting. Due to extensive pier renovations at Fort Clinch, this year's event will be held at the George Crady Bridge State Fishing Pier, 12157 Heckscher Drive.

The first 500 kids will take home their own rod and reel combo. A free hot dog lunch is provided to every participant.

Film Society of St. Augustine

The Film Society of St. Augustine shows international and art films the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the main gallery of the St. Augustine Art Association, 22 Marine St. Movies begin at 7:00 p.m. For information, call 904-823-9969 or email info@augfilm.com.

North Beaches Art Walk

Every third Thursday of the month, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., the shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques of the Beaches Town Center area and beyond showcase the talent of local artists during the North Beaches Art Walk. For information, call Archway Gallery and Framing at 249-2222.

Museum programs for children

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, 829 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, 904-355-0630, offers classes and programs for children.

•Art Adventures on Second Saturdays offers classes in painting, printmaking, collage and construction with changing themes. Sign up for one class or sign up for them all. Classes are held on second Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m.-noon, for ages 6 to 12. The cost is $10 per class for members, $15 for non-members per class.

•Art for Two provides an opportunity to spend a fun-filled hour with your child in a class based on the national Start With The Arts program. The class provides an infusion of art, movement, literature and music that will help channel children’s interests into the development of new skills. Pre-registration is required. Classes are held Thursdays, 3:00-4:00 p.m., for ages 3-5. The cost to members is $10 per pair per class; for non-members it’s $15 per pair per class.

Courtyard Music

Music in the Courtyard, 200 First Street, Neptune Beach, is played from 7:00-10:00 p.m. every Friday through the end of October. The evening of community fun is free, open to the public and sponsored by The Shoppes at 200 First Street. For information, call 249-2922.

Finally Friday

LAKE CITY, FL - Finally Friday is back! Come downtown to Olustee Park and enjoy music and a movie. It's FREE entertainment for an evneing. Always held on the last Friday of the month, it's where everyone needs to be. Bring the entire family - we have something for the young and the "young at heart". Their will be food and drinks for sale. It's a great time to meet the community. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for a great evening of fun.

Reading Program

The Jacksonville Public Library will offer a reading program for children and teens this summer. Beginning June 1, Duval County residents ages 12-18 can volunteer at any library and participate in an essay contest for a chance to win a $700 college scholarship from George Koury & Associates Insurance. Children 6-12 years of age can attend story times and after reading five books can enter to win a bicycle courtesy of the Jacksonville Suns. Last year, more than 2,000 youngsters participated in the programs at the Main Library and 21 branches.

Eco-sensible landscape

Landscape designer/owner James Loper will discuss tips for creating an eco-sensible landscape from 10:00-11:30 a.m. June 14 at Reflections of Nature Garden Center. Learn about topics such as xeriscaping, using native plants, less use of water and reducing the amount of lawn. Reflections of Nature Garden Center is located at 850688 US 17 South in Yulee. Shell Show and Fair

For the 42nd year in a row, the Jacksonville Shell Club hosts the Shell Show and Fair and offers you a chance to purchase some seaside flair for your home and learn more about shells from all over the world. The show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium. Adults, $5; seniors, $4; and children 6-12, $3. (904) 246-4012.

Archaeology Day

Ever wonder how archaeologists make sense of the past? Learn more at the Archaeology Day at Kingsley Plantation from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 14.

Visitors will see archaeologists at work in two areas of the site - the slave quarters and near the plantation house. Archaeologists will explain the process of archaeology while the work is under way. The event is free and open to the public.

Native gardening

Learn how you can help Florida's environment stay natural and healthy by planting native species, eradicating exotic species, and creating an earth-friendly mini-environment on your property. The program will take place on June 15 at 1 p.m. at pavilion five on Little Talbot Island. No reservations are necessary and the program is free with regular park admission.
