Wellborn Blueberry Festival a Blast!

Wellborn Blueberry Festival a Blast!

By DAVID THEUS

Every year in Wellborn Florida, the first Friday and Saturday of June can only mean one thing…

Plenty of berries... for pies, jelly, and lots of other goodies.
Blueberries. The annual Blueberry Festival is an outdoor festival full of vendors of all kinds, from giant slides for the kids to accomplished artisans. Everything from salt crystal lamps, to digital photography by Shanna Mugge, and carvings. Unbelievable carvings of everything and anything imaginable.

It’s trips like this that remind me how great our country really is. The blueberry festival is true Red White and Blue, a slice of Americana all served up in one weekend of fun and celebration. Take a rest under the sittin’ tree and enjoy a break from the sun and heat. Take in a ballad or two offered by whomever is singing his or her turn at the karaoke.

Let the kids take a turn at the pony ride while Dad tries his luck at the old dunking machine. Pick up a recipe or two on how to make the best fresh blueberry pie, pancakes, muffins, bread, and even cookies. There were even blueberry bushes if you want to get some growing in your own yard. I picked up three bushes of my own.

Buy a few plants for your own back yard.

Saturday morning starts early at 7:00am with the home made blueberry pancake breakfast, followed by the infamous Annual Blueberry Festival Parade through town. Saturday is full of more artisans and activity during the mid-day and afternoon.

Who knew blueberries could be so fun?

Cotton candy and shaved ice are always good.
