Strahan set for retirement Strahan set for retirementBy BRANDON FINLEY After fifteen seasons of what will surely be a Hall of Fame career defensive end Michael Strahan has called it a career. Strahan ended his career on top as he waited it out one more season with the New York Giants, and came out with a Super Bowl Championship. I wonder if ex-teammate Tiki Barber wished he had done the same. Strahan ended his career ranked fifth on the NFL's all time list with 141 and ½ regular season sacks. However, his most impressive work may have come during the 2001 season as Strahan was able to set a NFL single season record with 22 ½ sacks. The 22 ½ sacks wasn't the only amazing year in Strahan's long career. Two years after setting the NFL record Strahan came back to add 18 ½ sacks. He's been one of those players who you looked at as the face of a franchise. He'll now turn that role over to Eli Manning, but he certainly left the franchise in better shape than when he arrived turning the Giants into one of the NFL's most feared pass rushing teams. Strahan was able to amass seven Pro-Bowl trips in his NFL career, but the Super Bowl win is the one thing he'll remember most. It's what will forever link his name to the likes of John Elway. He'll always be remembered as one of the guys who went out on top. |
