Suspect hurt when police cars collide

STARKE, FL - A suspect on his way to jail had to make a stop by the local hospital first when the Starke Police car he was in was broad-sided by a Bradford County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

received minor injuries early Saturday morning when the Starke Police car he was riding in was broad-sided at a slow speed by a Bradford County squad car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly in the early morning hours of June 21 on McMahon Street in Starke. The road runs between the county jail and the Bradford County Courthouse.

FHP investigators said Starke Officer David Schlofman, 22, was driving a marked police car to the jail with Shawntell Carter, 20, in the back seat. Carter had been arrested a few minutes before on violation of probation charges.

At the same time, a Bradford County Sheriff's Office Explorer was being driven out of the parking area by Sgt. Wayne McIntire, 63. The Explorer's front end hit the front passenger door of Schlofman's car. No one was injured.

Bradford County Sheriff Bob Milner has appointed a three-member crash review team to look into the incident.
