Felony Court this week Felony Court this weekBy LYNSIE BREAUX Baker CountyMonday's felony court docket had fewer than 60 cases on the morning docket. Despite the relatively light caseload, quite a few people will be spending some time courtesy of the state department of corrections. Funston Clifford Mann, 36, pled guilty to multiple counts involving both drugs and stolen property. He received four concurrent sentences of ten years in prison which will be followed by a single sentence of 10 years drug offender probation. Mann's criminal enterprises began with a December, 2003 arrest on two charges of trafficking in stolen property. Less than a month later a charge of altered or no vin number was added to the 2003 charge. Two months after being arrested for that charge, Mann was arrested in March of 2004 based on a scheme in which he was accepting toys and electronics being stolen from a toy store truck moving equipment from Alabama to Jacksonville. While awaiting trial for the charges of stolen property Mann apparently changed professions. Undercover operatives with the Baker County Sheriff's Department purchased 30 Lortab 10/500 tablets from Mann at his house June 6, 2006. They returned July 5, 2006 and purchased another six pills from Mann. The June purchase resulted in a trafficking in illegal drugs charge and the July purchase resulted in a charge of possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and sale of a controlled substance. Sean Lamont Johnson, 31, will be in prison for the next two years. Johnson was arrested February 18, 2008 and charged with burglary with assault and petit theft. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 364 days in the Baker County Jail. However, while incarcerated for that charge, Johnson decided that while in jail it would be nice to have a pain pill and some marijuana. He was rearrested February 28, 2008 and charged with introduction of contraband into a county detention facility, possession of a controlled substance and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Johnson smuggled three packages of marijuana into prison as well as one hydrocodone pill. Judge Phyllis Rosier sentenced him to 24 months for the second arrest. However, she gave him credit for the 118 days he's already served. Tonya Sue Goodrich, 24, received two five year concurrent sentences for trafficking in illegal drugs and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. Goodrich stole a prescription pad from a former employee and was caught at the Walgreen's drive through picking up a prescription for pain pills. |
