Maria Guerrero seductively seducing
Maria Guerrero seductively seducing
By DAVID THEUS
You have to love the hype put out by cigar manufacturers and distributors these days. The good news here is, this one lives up to the hype and more. Read on…
"
Once upon a time, legions of men were seduced by Maria Guerrero…the legendary cigar named after the celebrated Spanish actress who graced the stage a century ago. Now it’s back in all its sensual glory. With its lovely Cameroon wrapper, bold Nicaraguan binder and flavorful blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Peruvian long fillers, Maria Guerrero is once again seducing men everywhere." (Altadis USA)
I think that pretty much says it all. I told you early on that my new favorite smoke was going to be the Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real (toro), well it still is but this one has tied now for the lead in my favorite column. It figures that both cigars come from the same family of distribution the Altadis USA company. The bottom line is - Cameroon wrapper has it hands down.
The Maria Guerrero differs slightly from the Reserva Real in the sense that it has a hint of sweetness and a dash of extra spice to it. It has that subtle aroma of a passing woman with just the right amount of perfume on, one that is not overwhelming but grabs your attention. It’s a pleasant smoke, the draw was perfect, the ash got a little off kilter, towards the middle, but I will take the blame for that when I lit it.
I could see myself wanting to have plenty of these on hand any time, but for sure in the early fall, just when the leaves begin to change and it starts to get cool. The band is a throw back to when cigar bands were as important as the cigar itself. I like it! Cigar Aficionado gives it a 90, where the Reserva Real got a 92. I would say the only difference for me would be the taste of course, but the ash of the Reserva Real is perfect every time. I think that speaks to the man or woman who rolled each one. I really like it!
Just in case you don’t know what to get me this year for my birthday (Sept. 19), a box of Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real (toro) and a box of Maria Guerrero (toro) will do just fine. This particular cigar was slightly more expensive coming in at $6.00 even, but it was worth every penny. Go see my friends in San Marco at Edwards of San Marco and tell them I sent you from North Florida News Daily. Tell them you want to be seduced by non other than Maria Guerrero herself and enjoy.
One other little tip I would like to pass on if you are new to cigar smoking. When you select the cigar that you are going to smoke, make it special. Take the extra care to select carefully where you are going to sit first of all, it should be a comfortable seat - you are going to be there for the next 30 to 50 minutes. Make sure there is not going to be any distractions like the phone, or TV. Lastly, be sure to have plenty of beverage on hand so you are not distracted by running out. Use wooden matches only and relax and enjoy.
