People to see, Places to go & Things to do People to see, Places to go & Things to doOutdoor moviesOutdoor movies will be shown throughout July and August in Atlantic Beach. PG-rated movies will be shown at the Donner Park Community Center, 2072 George St., July 12, July 26, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23, according to the city’s Recreation Programs and Special Events Department. The movies are free and open to the public. Activities such as basketball, kickball and Frisbee will begin at 7 p.m., and the movie will start between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Participants can also receive a free food ticket between 7 and 8 p.m. for snacks such as hot dogs and chips, according to Department Director Timmy Johnson. However, food tickets will not be available once the movie begins. The movie schedule is still being determined, but options include "Shrek 2," "Shrek 3," "Madagascar," "Cars," "Hook" and "High School Musical." "Happy Feet" will be the first movie shown. The event is sponsored by the city of Atlantic Beach and the city of Jacksonville Parks Department. For more information call 247-5828. 10th Anniversary meetingThe Yulee Historic Council will celebrate its 10th anniversary at its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 26 at FCCJ's Nassau Center (76346 William Burgess Blvd., Yulee) in the Nassau Room. The program will include a presentation by special guest Heber MacWilliams, a descendant of William MacWilliams, who established a brickyard in Italia in the 1880's. MacWilliams secured a contract from David Yulee to make a million bricks at a site on the Transit Railroad. He named the town Italia because Florida was promoting itself as "America's Italy" at this time. Brick from Italia was used by a resident of Fernandina to construct the first brick house in town. Heber MacWilliams will travel from his home in Ohio for the presentation. For more information call 225-5133. "Country Nights Live"The Palace Saloon presents "Country Nights Live" from 7-10 p.m. June 25 in the Special Events Room. Hear 12-year-old singing sensation Steffanie Renae, 2008 Girls Vocalist of the Year for the North American Country Music Association International. Kick up your heels as the Southern Stompers, Fernandina's clogging group, gives country line dance instruction from 7:30-8 p.m.
