AIA organizes First Annual Architecture Design and Planning Charrette AIA organizes First Annual Architecture Design and Planning CharretteJACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is organizing workshops intended to bring together architects, planning professionals, and the public to explore possibilities and opportunities for a specific architectural/urban planning challenge in Jacksonville. For its inaugural effort, the AIA selected "A. Philip Randolph: Potentials of a Vibrant Corridor" as the focus of the charrette. "We view this charrette as a healthy exercise that encourages a public conversation as it relates to the design of the physical environment in which we live, work and play," said Roland Udenze, AIA committee chair. A. Philip Randolph is one of the major thoroughfares in the Sport Complex and may have the potential to be a thriving post-event destination with entertainment, restaurants, and other attractions. This charrette is not a city/county sanctioned study. The event will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jacksonville Historic Society, 317 A. Philip Randolph Blvd., adjacent to the baseball grounds. The program will include a bus tour of A. Philip Randolph Blvd., historical perspectives, and breakout groups working on realizing the vision of the boulevard as a destination. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. RSVP required.
