The Toro’s Have It!

The Toro’s Have It!

By DAVID THEUS

Back to my local Walgreen’s for my selection this week. Once again I did not plan as well as I should have when I was in San Marco this past week. I have selected the Blender’s Gold in the glass tube, but this time the toro versus the Churchill I reviewed the last time I ventured to the Blender’s Gold. You might remember, the Churchill was not that great.

As it turns out, this (toro) size wins hands down over the Churchill. Remember, the toro is often the same ring size or larger, but the length is usually two thirds that of a Churchill. For whatever reason, for me anyway, the toro has made me a believer combining the right length with the proper ring size, the toro’s have it.

In case you might have forgotten, this cigar has a mild Connecticut wrapper with a Honduran filler, the ash was perfect and the draw was great as well. The only problem I have with these behind the drug store counter cigars is - I can never be too sure how old they are, and worst of all, what condition they are going to be in from sitting out in the climate controlled air conditioned space of the store.

As you may have experienced, a dry cigar will often time draw with a very airy taste and by the end of the cigar, there is a strong burning sensation from it being so dry. That’s why it’s so important to procure your cigars from a store that knows how to properly store them. It’s all about temperature, moister content and even exposure to light that can make a difference.

Next time you decide to go for a cigar, take a friend with you and introduce him to the same sense of enjoyment you gain, when smoking a fine cigar. Until next time, enjoy.
