On May 7 Rachel Morningstar Hoffman was tragically taken from her family, her friends and our community way before her time. The community will come together July 12 to celebrate her special life and to help each other cope with a reality so surreal and unbelievable. While the circumstances surrounding Rachel’s death are certainly upsetting and controversial, The Purple Hatter’s Ball is a celebration of Rachel’s spirit and memory, not a political debate. In her own life, when she was sad, Rachel turned to music for healing. On July 12, everyone will come together as a community to celebrate Rachel’s memory and to help each other heal our broken hearts through the joy of music. Rachel developed a special relationship with The Ponderosa Wildlife Preserve when she helped ready the property for the Bear Creek Music and Art Festival in 2007. With this in mind, enjoying a night of music at this spiritual place is particularly appropriate. Rachel had plans to attend culinary school in the near future and often hosted potluck gatherings at her home to practice for her future career. To honor her passion for food and hospitality, we invite all participants to bring a homemade dish to share with others and to participate in what may be the largest potluck dinner in Florida history. Tickets will be on sale Friday, June 20. Tickets are $30 and include music and overnight camping. There will be a limited number of persons admitted on the property so only 400 tickets will be sold. Tickets are available at the Green Living Center, CD Warehouse and Vinyl Fever in Tallahassee. All profits from this event will benefit the Morningstar Foundation which has been established by Rachel’s mother and stepfather.
