Pedophile's execution first in almost two years

Pedophile's execution first in almost two years

STARKE, FL - Pedophile and killer Mark Dean Schwab was put to death by lethal injection for kidnapping, raping and killing an 11-year-old boy just after 6:00 p.m. today at Florida State Prison.

Schwab raped and killed Junny Rios-Martinez in 1991 a month after he was released early from a prison sentence he got for raping a 13-year-old boy.

Today marked Florida’s first execution since 2006 when they were halted after Angel Diaz’s execution had problems. Needles were accidentally pushed through Diaz's veins, causing the lethal chemicals to go into his muscles instead and delaying his death for 34 minutes - twice as long as normal. Delays were also held up while the U.S. Supreme Court ruled whether the three-drug method of lethal injection used by Kentucky was  constitutional. Thirty-three other states use a similar method.

Lethal injection executions around the country resumed in April after the high court ruled they did not constitute cruel and

unusual punishment.

Governor Crist's office said Schwab died at 6:15 p.m.
