Snake causes truck crash

Snake causes truck crash

Snakes are dangerous. Some may not hurt you, but they can make you hurt yourself.

A snake is to blame for sending a tractor-trailer careening off a Jacksonville bridge and into the waters below. The drawbridge attendant told investigators she saw a four foot snake in the middle of the bridge.

James Gray of Green Cove Springs crashed off the Sisters Creek bridge Monday night about 7:00 p.m. to avoid traffic stopped for a four-foot snake crossing the Heckscher Drive Bridge. In order to avoid crashing into a vehicle that had stopped right in front of him because of the snake, Gray locked up his brakes and went over the rail into the water.

Employees for a contractor working for the Florida Department of Transportation witnessed the accident and helped pull Gray from the water giving him first aid until rescue arrived. Gray was transported to Shands Jacksonville.

Heavy equipment including a crane and barge were brought in Tuesday to remove the truck from Sisters Creek.

See, snakes are dangerous.
