Union County commission candidate killed in accident
     A fatal accident on Monday took the life of a Union County Commission candidate. Robert Davis, 45, of Lake Butler was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

     Did you know according to our Constitution that every July 4th we are to celebrate our independence with celebrations to include pomp and circumstance and illuminations? Better known today as celebrations with parades and fireworks. Federal prison proposed for Columbia County
     A new federal prison to house illegal aliens could have a home in Columbia County. Commissioners heard a proposal to build the $60 million, low security facility during a special meeting last week. The prison would only house illegal aliens arrested and convicted of committing a crime while in the United States.

New law for temporary license plates
     The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles now has enhanced capability to further protect new vehicle owners and law enforcement officers. The new law, effective July 1, requires all temporary tags to be displayed on the rear of the vehicle in the proper license plate bracket.

     Most would be concerned when they hear a sexual predator has taken up residence in your county or community. Citizens in Union County let their elected officials know just how concerned they were when two newly released sexual predators moved into local neighborhoods this year. Both moved out of the county, but county officials have taken steps to make sure that Union county residents are as safe as possible.
