Union County commission candidate killed in accident Union County commission candidate killed in accidentA fatal accident on Monday took the life of a Union County Commission candidate. Robert Davis, 45, of Lake Butler was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Davis was driving westbound on State Road 100 about 7:30 p.m. when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle while driving in the rain. The bike fell over before skidding into the eastbound lane and overturning. Davis retired from the Department of Corrections in 2004 and was most recently employed at Shadd Trucking in Lake Butler. He was also a candidate for the office of District 3 County Commissioner. He is survived by his wife Darla Kay Sargent Davis, registrar at Union County High School; sons Robert Justin Davis and Michael Brandon Davis of Lake Butler; parents Bobby and Sadie Davis of Lake Butler; sister Marie Jennings, of Lake Butler; mother and father-in-law, Charlotte and Otis Portis of Alachua; and his father-in-law, Jimmie Sargent of St. Augustine. The funeral service will be held at Archer Funeral Home on Friday, July 11, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Norman conducting the service. Interment will follow in Elzey Chapel Cemetery. |
