     If you're not a professional historian or history writer, you might think history to be one of the more direct areas of nonfiction to write: after all, everything has already "happened" and it's a matter mainly of retelling the tale, right? If only it could be so simple: history writing, at its best, will inform the reader of an area or topical focus and put that topic into words which spring it to life, transporting the reader to an understanding and perhaps even a gravitas of empathy for times long-passed or events that took place far away.
