District Eleven Little League softball and baseball tournament play continues around North Florida, despite late afternoon showers that led to a postponement of some games Monday.
Games are being played in five of the nine different brackets, with the other four set to begin starting Saturday. Winners in each age division earning district titles and berths in the upcoming sectional tournaments.
SOFTBALL
In the ongoing girls softball tourneys being hosted by Baker County Little League, thongs of fans continued to fill the stands to watch the Major League and 9/10 bracketed games.
The Baker County Major team, consisting of 11 and 12 year olds, won a berth in the championship rounds Tuesday night by defeating the St. Augustine All-Stars 12 to 8. Baker is the only undefeated team left in the bracket and will play the winner of tonight’s elimination game between St. Augustine and Callahan. Callahan topped Yulee 16 to 13 last night to remain in the tournament. The Baker versus loser’s bracket winner game is scheduled for Thursday at 7 pm.

Tuesday night 9 to 8. They will face off with Yulee tonight, with the winner advancing to the championship rounds. Callahan beat NOL in their rain delayed game by a winning score of 22 to 17. Baker County’s youngest girls squad and Callahan will both be trying to extend their tournament run Wednesday night at 8 pm.
BASEBALL
In the boys baseball brackets being hosted by Highlands, Monday’s games were in the loser’s bracket where teams were fighting to stave off elimination. Callahan #2 was sent home by Yulee with a final score of 13 to 3, while Baker County #1 bounced Baker County #2 out of the tournament 16 to 2 in a head to head showdown. San Mateo met a similar fate when Mill Creek won their game 16 to 2. Callahan #1 stayed alive in the tournament when they beat Highlands 15 to 2.
The teams went right back at it with Baker County #1 dominating Yulee 15 to 5 and Callahan #1 topping Mill Creek 15 to 0.
Winners bracket action resumed on Tuesday with Arlington falling to NOL #1, 18 to 6, and NOL #2 coming up short against St Augustine, 7 to 4.
The Major League Bracket tournament at NOL Monday night, the schedule featured St. Augustine winning over Callahan 1 to 0 in a tight pitcher’s duel and Arlington breezing by Yulee 8 to 1. Baker County won their losers bracket game on Tuesday, outscoring San Mateo 8 to 2, while host team NOL handily beat Highland 16 to 2.
In the Junior Division (13/14) tournament, the Baker County boys crushed Highlands 18 to 0, to remain undefeated. They will meet the tournaments only other unbeaten team for a berth in the championship rounds. San Mateo will be the Baker boys opponent, after they beat St. Augustine 12 to 2. In the elimination bracket game tonight Yulee will take on Highlands, with St. Augustine waiting for the winner in the next scheduled game.
