Building permits online

The city of Fernandina Beach Community Development Department has announced its Building Permits Online Services.

Permit applications and inspection results have been available solely via phone or office visits. This new service will allow citizens and contractors the ability to track permit applications through the review process, i.e., review staff comments and recommendations, schedule, cancel or review inspection results, search properties for construction related activities and perform public records requests.

A contractor code and password are required to utilize the inspection request portion of this system. To obtain a contractor code and password, fill out the contractor/homeowner form which can be found at www.fbfl.us/forms.asp and return to the Building Department. An e-mail address is required to use this service.

For information, contact Caroline Best at cbest@fbfl.org.

Discount travel packages available

NORTHEAST FLORIDA - Area hotels and tourism leaders are offering discount travel packages to residents within a three-hour drive as a way to revive business after a slow start to 2008.

Average room occupancy rates dropped by nearly six percent among hotels and motels in the Jacksonville metro area this year through April, according to a recent report from Smith Travel Research, a national lodging data provider.

Occupancy rates are expected to either get worse or level off during the summer. So many hoteliers are joining with tourism leaders in promoting packages during summer holidays and weekends and are targeting the leisure traveler within a three-hour drive of Northeast Florida.
