Considered to be an important win for whomever in the race for the presidency, Florida will host both political hopefuls this week. Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama will come to Florida this week to fight for electoral votes.
Those in the know say the race in Florida has tightened especially since a flood of television ads featuring Obama have hit the Sunshine State. Obama has been targeting North Florida in particular since this is where McCain lived two different times. Also North Florida voters tend to favor Republican candidates for federal office.
According to Nielsen Monitor-Plus, from June 20 to July 6, Obama aired more than 2,400 ads in Florida. Thirty-five percent of them aired in the Gainesville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Panama City markets.
Meanwhile, McCain has been targeting south Florida’s traditionally more Democratic voter base. The campaign has moved to target grass-roots efforts and opened 32 "Victory Offices."

With less than 100 days left until election day, very little separates the two candidates. The Rasmussen daily tracking polling has shown the race within a margin of 1-4 percent for the last seven days. When voters leaning toward a candidate are included, this margin has existed for over two weeks. July 24th Gallup tracking shows the race within two points.
