Seeking input on Splash Park and Skate Park

The City of Lake Butler Planning and Zoning Board invites any citizen interested in the development of a SKATE PARK and/or a SPLASH FOUNTAIN to attend the regularly scheduled Planning and Zoning Board Meeting on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 5:00 PM and/or public meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Lake Butler City Hall, 200 SW First Street, Lake Butler, FL 32054. Public participation is encouraged to enhance the City’s recreational faculties. The youth of the City are especially invited. Rain barrel workshop

Rain barrels collect water from the downspouts on houses or from spots where it collects in one area. James Loper of Reflections of Nature Garden Center, 850688 US 17 South in Yulee, will show the usages and advantages of rain barrels at a presentation Aug. 16 from 10-11:30 a.m.

The white plastic barrels hold 55 gallons and weigh about 400 pounds when full. They can have a spigot that can be hooked up to a hose or used to fill a watering can. Larger systems also are available. For more information call Loper at 225-9915.

Import/export survey

The Nassau County Economic Development Board has received a grant from Enterprise Florida, Inc., to begin a first-ever International Business Development Initiative in the county. The initiative is designed to identify and then work with Nassau County businesses to help them build new markets outside the United States. Under the grant, both importers and exporters of goods and services may receive assistance.

The first task in the grant is to survey Nassau County manufacturers and service providers. Konesens Re-search based in Palm Coast, is assisting with the survey.

Those parties who are now importing or exporting products or services, or who would like to do so are asked to call (904) 225-8878 and take the brief survey.

Candidates showcased

NASSAU COUNTY, FL - The Greater Nassau County Chamber of Commerce will host a "Candidate Showcase" August 7, 6-9 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building at the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds, sponsored by the GNCCC, Florida Power & Light, A.C. Griffin & Son, First Coast Community Bank and the Nassau County Record.

You can also meet the candidates for the Nassau County Commission and learn their responses to critical issues facing the region during a candidate forum August 21 at 7 p.m. at the county commission chambers, 96160 Nassau Place Rd., sponsored by the AARP, Friends of the Library - Fernandina Beach and the Young Professionals Council.

 

Nocatee farmer's market

NOCATEE - The next Nocatee farmers and art market is scheduled 8 a.m. to noon August 16 along Crosswater Parkway in Nocatee, west of the Palm Valley Bridge.

The market will feature local produce, floral creations, baked goods and a variety of works by local artists. Vendors will set up curbside off Crosswater facing the retail district of Nocatee Town Center.

Take County Road 210 to Nocatee Parkway. At Crosswater Parkway, travel south and market will be on the left.
