A Bold Take on a Favorite Flavor
     America loves big, bold flavors. What's more, we love choices. Traditional ingredients like salt and pepper once made up what people considered a well-stocked cupboard. These "basic" kitchen staples aren't so basic anymore as we make room on the shelf for sea salts, Tellicherry black pepper, and peppercorn medleys. In fact, our love of pepper has resulted in a remarkable 60 percent increase in pepper imports over the last 20 years alone .

Virtual Reality is still here
     I have heard of the famous "Last Lecture" by Dr. Randy Pausch, professor in the department of Computer Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University; I had also heard about the video and how popular it was on YouTube, but I had not actually gotten around to watching it. Today I did watch it, partly because the news about his death was all around the media, and because I wanted to see why people liked it so much.

Bulb-Planting Strategies
     By autumn most gardeners have had enough of their gardens. Unless you live the Deep South, Southwest, or Florida, fall is a time to clean up the garden and dream of next year. However, there's one more planting task that can reap dividends next spring. In most of the country October is the perfect month to plant spring-flowering bulbs. Planting tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses, or a host of less common small bulbs will insure your garden has color and appeal the following spring.

The Host is difficult to put down
     A couple of months ago, while watching the Glenn Beck show on CNN, one of his guests was Stephenie Meyer, author of The Host and also known for her earlier books for teens, Twilight, New Moon, & Eclipse. So, I, being a fan of "mild Sci-Fi", I immediately went out and bought the book. Needless to say, it's a book you'll find difficult to put down until finished! The analogy I use is a 21st century version of the "Body Snatchers" but with a lot more sophistication and class!
