Freshman take the field for the Gators Freshman take the field for the GatorsSports Columnist The Florida Gators officially kicked off fall practice at 5:30 on Monday morning as the new faces of Florida football hit the field. However, there was one key addition to the new faces that was already a familiar face. Ronnie Wilson returned to the Gators as a walk on after being kicked off the team previously, and reports say that Wilson might just stick around this time. Wilson worked at defensive tackle, a position in much need of improvement for the Gators, and could work his way into the rotation. The defensive tackles will be one of the most talked about spots on the Gators' defense this season with many freshmen looking for playing time. Among them will be John Brown, Matt Patchan, and the beast Omar Hunter. Hunter was feverishly recruited out of high school, and already appears to be worth his five star rating. He's the kind of player that doesn't just clog holes, he covers them up. With his three hundred plus pounds along the defensive line, it's easy to see why. Of the other freshman to make quick impressions it was John Demps. The freshman known for his speed didn't get a lot of chances to touch the ball in the morning practice, but when he did late in the session it was easy to see why the Gators recruited the kid. Demps caught a short dump off pass which he was able to burst right through the defense with. Though he might not get the shot to become a primetime player this season, it's easy to see why he will be one of the names to watch in the future of Florida football. |
