Middleburg High School wins 2008 Straight Talk PSA contest
     The Jaguars Foundation is pleased to announce Middleburg High School as the winner of this year’s Straight Talk Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. Their PSA is about thinking through situations that could lead to unplanned pregnancy. It will air on the stadium video screens during the Jaguars’ August 9 preseason game.

Man killed in freak accident
     Ronald Priest, 56, of Hawthorne, was killed Thursday morning when more than 2,000 pounds of granulated fertilizer fell on him while working at the Mayo Fertilizer Company on McClousky Street in Lake City.

CCSO holds memorial service for K-9 deputies
     Representatives from several law enforcement agencies joined the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning for a memorial service to honor two K-9 deputies who died unexpectedly in June. Columbia County Sheriff’s K-9 Sagas and K-9 Cinco died about a week apart from unrelated medical causes.

Crime watch program is the eyes and ears of community
     For the past decade the Baker County Sheriff’s Department has had a 25th man on the streets helping fight crime. Sheriff Joey Dobson created the crime watch program shortly after taking office. Today he credits it with not only keeping crime down, but also helping to promote good neighbors and a tight-knit community.
